Make Your Messages More Effective
Have you ever seen graphics like these on social media before, and wanted to know how to make them?
It’s not always practical to hire a designer to create graphics – although I’m here if you need me. When you want to post sales, specials, promotions, or announcements quickly, it makes more sense to do it yourself. Adding a graphic will capture your audience’s attention, making your message more effective. Today, we’re going over a great resource called Canva that you can use to create stunning graphics quickly and effortlessly.
Step 1: Create an Account
Click here to sign up – its easy, and free! With Canva, you can easily create social media graphics, flyers, cards, newsletters, brochures, and more. After signing up, you will be taken through a brief tutorial that shows you how to use the online design app.
Basic design elements are free to use. Premium design elements cost $1 each, which is much cheaper then paying for stock photos and media.
Step 2: Choose Your Project
This screen can be accessed by clicking “Your Designs” at the top of the screen. As you can see, there are many options available. I will choose the Social Media design for the purpose of this tutorial. After clicking on Social Media, you are ready to get started.
Step 3: Customize Your Design
Start by choosing a Layout from the left.
Choose a layout that will convey your message. A layout is the foundation for your design. You will be able to change photos, text, and colors later on. You will notice that some layouts are marked with the “FREE” tag, while others are not.
Now you can add, edit, and rearrange the design elements to create your design.
Canvas Design Elements
These are just a few of the design elements that Canvas offers. For each category, there are hundreds of choices. Use the photo uploader to add your own photos to your design. There is also a search feature that works really well.
Using each design element is easy. Start by dragging it to your design. Then you can resize and position the element where you want it. Click on the element to change settings like color, typeface, alignment, transparency, and more.
Step 4: Download & Use Your Social Media Graphics
When you’re finished, click the “Download” button in the top-right of your screen.
Which file type do I choose?
You can download your graphic design as an image or a PDF. Images are more appropriate for social media, while PDF’s are better for documents and brochures.
Is it free?
If you used any premium design elements, you will have to pay for them before you can download your image. The cost is $1 per element, which is very reasonable compared to alternatives.
